Domonic’s Story

“My son’s name is Domonic. When he was 2, he was diagnosed with leukemia. No words can explain the emotion that we had in that room when the doctors gave us this news. We cried and held one another for what seemed like hours, but it was only for a few minutes. We knew that we had to get ourselves together so that Domonic would not see us in that state of mind. Our world was turned upside down. That was the first time we had to be separated from each other so that one of us could be with Domonic and the other could be there for our other kids. Everything moved quickly from surgery to chemotherapy treatments. We learned to take things day by day, but found ourselves struggling financially because of all of the medical bills. I was referred to Ma Hila’s Heart Project. It didn’t take long for Gloria to reach out to us and make an impact that helped us so much through such a difficult time. Domonic is an artist and we found him weary not just with the treatments but with the time that he spent doing nothing. We knew that we needed to find a way for him to focus on his passion of art so that he wouldn’t have to think so much about all that he was dealing with. Ma Hila’s Heart Project filled this need and blessed him with an Apple iPad. During treatments all of a sudden our washing machine broke and we were having to go to a laundromat to wash clothes and bring those wet clothes back home to dry. Ma Hila’s Heart purchased a brand new washing machine for us. The feeling of receiving such blessings from this organization during a time like this is priceless. They gave us hope and faith when we needed it most. I follow Ma Hila’s Heart Project regularly now and see the impact they are making on so many families. Their name says it all and their HEART is definitely something that serve families like ours with.”
